Management of a Cracked Tooth-Dilemmas and Solutions

Abstract

We often find crack teeth, but an efficient and correct diagnosis is not always easy due to ambiguous patient symptoms. Moreover, although patients describe the symptoms with various expressions, clinicians should exclude other possibilities, including periodontal problems, restorative defects, or temporomandibular disorders.

It may be essential to find the origin of discomfort using all possible methods. Bite test, cold test, and transilluminations would be the tests that are frequently used. This presentation will summarize the typical protocol to diagnose a cracked tooth in the clinic.

If a correct diagnosis is made, the next concern would be treatment planning. The decision-making for a crown restoration, endodontic procedure, or extraction would be discussed.

After the patient’s discomfort is resolved, the clinician should be aware of the prognosis of the cracked tooth that is treated.

During this presentation, these are the things that I would like to talk about during my presentation.

-Dx of a cracked tooth

-Tx of a cracked tooth

-Sharing my clinical tips

-What we do not know about crack tooth
