Re-Designing Endodontics - The Science Behind Newer Modern Conservative Innovations
We have witnessed only a handful of truly revolutionary changes in dentistry. A revolutionary concept doesn’t necessarily fulfill a desired need but it actually modifies our way we approach a problem. It makes us question currently our own ways of performing the procedure earlier and often begins a new era of technology and techniques. True paradigm shifts in clinical care require reproducible scientific and clinical evidence and often take years to develop.
In terms of Magnification and availability of new rotary systems, endodontics has evolved over the past half century. However, to a large degree the way the procedure is performed has remained the same. The practice of endodontics is experiencing a shift in the delivery of services and the advancement of scientific discovery within the field. Emergent technologies in instrumentation, magnification and imaging aimed at treating and salvaging the natural dentition with consistent outcomes, are all hallmarks of contemporary endodontic practice. The use of magnification devices in endodontics is becoming more and more common, with the aim of improving the quality of treatment. The common magnification systems used in modern endodontics are the surgical operation microscope, fiber-optic endoscope, and surgical loupes. The benefits of using magnification devices for conventional endodontic treatment include the increased visualization of the treatment field, enhanced possibilities in locating canals, aid in the removal of separated instruments, diagnosis of root and tooth fractures, perforation repair, and case documentation.
The newer file systems aim to be simpler, safer biologically and help the dentist to perform acceptable standards of root canal treatment to achieve success.
